Best payment method for pre-registration for WSOP events

Hello all.......I just found this forum and I'm an avid recreational poker player, both online and live.

I'm heading down to play in a $1500 WSOP event this year and I was curious what is the best payment method for Canadians looking to pre-register for a specific event?

Cashiers Check (Money Order)

but keep in mind The WSOP stops all pre-registrations 2 weeks before the event starts, so you will have to make sure to send it with plenty of time.

What event are you thinking of playing?

Hey Steve thanks for the reply....I'm going to play event #43 starting on June 25th so I was thinking about getting a cashiers check and sending by courier tomorrow, I think it should get there in time. I'd hate to get down there and the trny is sold out.

I've actually played a few events in The Orangeville Poker Tour a few years back when they used to be run on Sunday afternoons.

You will be sending it to to a P.O. Box which most couriers do not deliver to.

The fastest way I found is express post which is like 4-5 business days, then they have to pick it up, so you may be pushing it to get there before the 2 week cut off. If you are arriving a couple of days before or even the day before, you should be fine to register then.

Easiest way is to bring cash. Nothing to declare if you bring less than 10k. There's really no need to pre-register for any events. Depends when you get there, but it's usually best to register the night before the tourney. Or get there 2 or 3 hours before the start of the event to register...then grab something to eat/relax before playing.

It's often better to avoid late registering for any event....since all late registrant get seated together to begin the tournaments. The people that do late register are often better players on average than rest of the field.

There's very little chance that this $1500 tourney would get locked out. It's only happen once as far as I know...and that was the WSOP 1D two years ago.

2 years ago a $1500 Event I played in got locked out

Anyone know if the 10k limit is just for cash or for money orders too? I'm planning to take a 5k money order and 6k in cash. Just want to know if there's going to be any issues or if I should pre-register.

The 10k limit is for all forms of money...(well excluding credit cards).

If you register the night before, there's no way you'll be locked out for that event. I would expect the largest fields would be in the 1k's, with the biggest being on July 3rd. I doubt you'll be locked out of that if you register the night before for the 1k.

Has anyone tried a wire transfer? Or is it just best to register in cash when I get down there? I'm arriving the night before the trny and I can head over and register after I check into my hotel.

Any other tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

How's the poker room temperature wise? Last time I played at Caesar's I froze my butt off.

I wire transferred the money. I don't have a confirmation yet. Dress in long sleeves, always cold in there.

Any money you cross the border with over 10k needs to be declared. You go to Canada customs before you go to US costoms! Very important you do this first. They can confiscate if you don't.

You fill out the form, and that's it. They just want to know, it's not taxed or are you hassled because of it.

Did you add a little extra on the trny fee for extra bank charges? I've read that the receiving bank may add a fee on their end and the WSOP won't accept payment until it's paid in full. They will hold it until then though. I assume you did it through your bank?

If this is an option for payment the extra fees are not in their literature. My bank didn't charge me a fee as I do lots of business with them. I will look to get a confirmation. Thanks gus

in the above link it states the following

International Wires: Please be aware that all transaction fees are the responsibility of the sender. This includes all fees charged by correspondent banks. Wires received with fees deducted from the buy-in amount will require an additional deposit to complete registration. We will make one attempt to contact the remitter via email to notify of payment shortage. Pre-Registration payments that are short will not be confirmed until complete payment has been received.
