Wait to get in the money or be aggresive?

Okay, this happened to me and last night and it has been bugging me all morning.

I was playing in UB's 9:00 $5 NLHE tourny.
633 Registered. Top 60 Pay out.

We are down to 63 players left. Average chip stack is 9000. I have $4500.
Blinds are 300 - 600. Antes 100.
I'm in late position.

Everyone ahead of me folds.
I call with Ah Qh
SB folds. BB Raises to 1200 (has about 8,000 in chips).
I put the BB on a Ace High.
Here is the part where I agonize. Do I call? or go all-in knowing that I probably have him beat, or do I just fold and try to get in the money?

I decided to go all-in. I was right he has AJo. He hits a J on the flop and I'm out in 63rd. 3 spots out of the money (only $8 but better than nothing)

So my question is, do you think my decision was correct? I was very sure I had the best hand. Or would you wait until you made the money and then be aggressive?

I just call here to see a flop. You would still have 2800 chips left after the flop why get involved in a coin flip for your tourney in which you probably sat there for a couple of hours. Small money or big money your goal is to cash every time. Just my thoughts. Also You should have raised instead of calling on the button with AQ, putting the pressure on him.

I think you played the hand well and got unlucky.

Your pre flop limp is OK. Raising pre-flop is OK too.

Then, he makes a little raise. Too small for you to fold. Should you call or raise? Will raise add fold equity? You are three out of the money forcing him to call 3200 into a c. 6000 pot. He might fold some hands that he is willing to make that little raise with. A big win for you. If he calls... you have a good hand. And, as it turns our you had a dominating hand. $8 will be almost irrelevant to your long term win rate. Look to get some chips and more up the ladder.

I would open with a raise in this spot a large percentage of the time whatever my hole cards are unless I have some reason to believe that my remaining opponents are difficult to steal the blinds from.

I would open with a raise in this spot with AQs nearly 100% of the time especially if I have some reason to believe that my remaining opponents are difficult to steal the blinds from.

The way you actually played it is fine too, particularly if one (or both) of the blinds is very aggressive pre-flop.
