Canadian Online Poker LeaguePlay against other PokerForum.ca members in games held on various online poker sites. These private tournaments have different awards and prizes. Who will be the first with 10 award icons?
Good question... talking to a few sites right now trying to work something out.... what kind of things are important to everyone at the next site? Good bonuses, mac friendly software, game variety, rakeback, etc.? Let me know so I can try and find a good match.
Not to say this isn't important (as I have a Mac myself), but this could potentially severely limit the # of options available to us.
Perhaps, and if that were the case then so be it.
It's required for me to be able to play, but I don't expect the whole league to be based around that. I was able to play the Chan games due to the java applet version.
I also know Stars and Tilt are Mac friendly, which is where I think most folks play anyhow no?
ComeOutPoker also boasts the first ever gay poker game, known simply as ComeOut Hold'em. The game is played along the same guidelines as Texas Hold'em, but all straights are eliminated from the ranking of the hands. ComeOut Hold'em is available in all sit and go, tournament, and heads-up games.
Whether or not that site still exists is beyond me.

I think that this is a problem for another league with a prize isn't it? Generating new users on the host site, is what gets the organizer (in this case the forum) money, which pays for the prize for the league. A site that everyone already plays at doesn't accomplish this goal, there are few new signups. Unless everyone is clicking on these banners like crazy, or the site decides to put up the final prize just to be nice. I could be way off base here ...

No, you probably have a really good point.
My experience is that very few places do anything just to be nice these days.

Trust me, I would love to run the league on pokerstars or fulltilt but Waterlooser is 100% correct, this won't allow us to generate anything to put towards a prize pool, let alone cover the hosting costs for this forum.
My goal is to find a site that:
1) Can offer something for the members of the forum - Freerolls, buyins to tourneys, rakeback etc.
2) Has good traffic and a good selection of games (so when you aren't playing the league games there may be something else for you to do on the site)
3) Is Accessible - Whether it be software options (Mac/Linux) or Deposit Methods
Trust me, this is by no means a get rich kinda scheme for Greg and I, and we don't expect to make a lot off running these events, in fact the last league was quite -ev when you factor things like CPF bucks, prizes and hosting. But, that was the risk we took when we bought this site and we are fine with that. We are looking more at the long term value of the site and to draw attention to other sponsors of the site.
Our main goal is to create something fun for the current members, attract new members, create value for our sponsors and hopefully at the end of the day turn a profit. This will in turn allow us to put some more money into the site and make it a better site for everyone.
By utilizing "power in numbers" we are able to negotiate better promotions and prizes for you guys and hopefully our business can make some kind of a profit, but we can't do this on a site where everyone already has an account.
I thought Chan was great. It was a shame the final game wasn't the one Chan put on at 10 pm. It was 10,000 chips and I think 30 min blinds. A real chance to play poker. The mixed games were also great.
I don't really want to open another site. I've opened three so far. Some were on crappy networks with crappy software, some have since shut down. There were other sites that I didn't even bother joining.
The last thing we need is another weak site on some obscure network.
By far Chan was the best, though Trillion wasn't bad.
I'm not interesting in playing small money freerolls as part of the league. I'd rather it be money added, CPF bucks, bounties, what have you.
The fact that Chan was willing to set up private tourneys structured to provide an experience not available to regular players on that network is reason enough to keep the league going there.
In the meantime are you going to run a Razz game on Full Tilt/P* to give away those books?
