Eh so I have $200 to spend, I haven't decided if I should buyin $100 or $200 and have the option to top up or not.
I guess Im playing whatever NLHE is available, Im not ready for PLO too new to it. I think the only game is going to be 9 player 1/2 no limit.
If you only have $200 to take a shot at 1/2 then I wouldn't really follow the advice in my other thread...that is more of a LAG style that increases long-term profits but also greatly increases short-term variance.

With $200 to work with I may actually recommend buying in very short ($50) and playing all in or fold preflop until you double once then adjusting, but it depends on your intentions in the game.

Are you just playing for fun? Are you going to be very upset about losing $200? How does the game play (you have been there before, correct?) -- is it generally 7 people limping in preflop or is there usually a raise and a few callers preflop, a raise and 7 callers preflop?

so not worried if I loose the $200 its "fun money" but in previous sessions its always seeemed a reasonable amount and I have been able to play poker for several hours with it. I dont play reckless and dont intend to just cause its fun money. I see it as a ticket to play a competitive game as best I can.

I cant predict how the game will go or what the players are like. I imagine its typical 2-4 players involved preflop 2-3 make it post flop and play get quite agressive from there (unless everyone is trapping lol)

never i mean never enter a pot in early position with a weak ace..just fold..if you pick a spot to be tricky, do it against what you perceive to be good players...ie floating[in position], check raising light, 3 barrels...dont try to hoodwink the clueless...

So I did in fact crush the Home Game tonight - Bought in for $20 cashed $140 .
not overly proud as I totally Donked the biggest pot of the evening, to which I laughed and laughed as I took out 2 Reg Donks in the process.

Will post hands soon... tired and work in the morning

woot Poker night ! feeling excited - really looking forward to it. Planning to go out at 9 and play for 4-5 hours. Im expecting I will play tight aggressive and hoping not to seem too much like a obv no0b at the table. A good result will be walking away with my buy-in back but Im planning to crush.

whats peoples opinions on small pairs (4-8) in early position ? fold ?

depends on stack sizes I suppose and how the rest of the table is playing but, I guess limp. If that's the norm, or make it 3-4x whatever your normal raise is or whatever the normal raise on the table is.

If its a home cash game, their generally quite loose, play it to set mine, low pairs are pretty easy to play, just ABC.

Edit: it's a casino, limp or small raise is fine, no one pays attention and your implied odds are good if you hit a set

See previous comments re: pocket pairs. I will NEVER fold a pair at 1/2 pre-flop if the raise is within the aforementioned range.

TPTK is no good if you are getting a lot of heat. Re: a bet, re-raise in front of you on the flop.
