Flat the river.
Way ahead way behind situation. Maybe you are being taken to value town here, but the pot demands you call.
I don't understand why he bets there without at least a straight. Either way, another successful retarded donk bet by villian.

Possible holdings for loose utg villian:
Overpair (77-AA), A6, A6d, A4, 6d7d,3d7d, 5-7, 45, 34, 24, 22, 44, 55, 66, 4-7, and MAYBE 48s
I agree we don't see a flush very often, and boats sometimes. Out of these holdings there's a lot of hands we are beaten/chopping, and a fair amount that we beat. I still think we're ahead here, I really don't put him on a boat (unless he just sucked out on us) and sometimes you can go all-in, but in this case I think the prudent thing to do is flat.

If he just beat us, say "nice hand", and remember that he value bets horribly and will lose money in the long run.

+1 You have gone this far. Too many hands that beat you so no point raising.

Moral of the story:

A. chasing straights on a paired board is bad for your health or
B. Don't be afraid of monsters under the bed

Prediction: Over pair

Ended up making the call.
He insta-mucks and says "You're good"
Never got to see his hand nor did anyone see mine. Dealer mucked his hand and shipped me the pot.

^^ Yep, do that.

Unless your opponent is incredibly bad, he's never calling a raise with worse than your straight here.

Call and hope he turns over an overpair or A4.

EDIT - Wow...what's up with the delay on my internet....posted this just after jd's last entry, or so I thought. :-/

you bet the flop w a draw. Problem w this move is you open up the opportunity for more betting. If opponents had trips, and if you hit your straight on the turn, they are not folding. Its only $10 so its really just a pot builder anyways.

Or I could take the pot there. Tables was not overly tricky

rofl. Yeah, if he instamucks you know he's not calling a raise.
What a donk. "Hey, maybe he'll fold after showing aggression on 2 streets while getting 6-1 odds! This is a brilliant move!"

+1. Live players generally don't vary their play. It is really bad poker. Heck, this makes me want to go to the casino today! OMFG FREE RENT!

Of course, this is a lot easier when you were the preflop aggresor, plus there's more money in the pot to steal. As said by several people, I highly recommend making a sufficient raise in this spot preflop. Like you said, the blinds don't re-raise unless they have AA-QQ or AK. You can steal a $10 pot preflop, or you know, make your striaght by the turn with a donkey who will donk-bet into you 2 streets with complete air. lol.

Man, that bet on the river was so weak. You can't raise cause there is no value there, but what was he doing! Some people are just ridiculous.

I think its player dependant. If the player has the right image (maybe this is more applicable in live games), sometimes these small bets are too obvious and it will get the other player to fold. The old,' you know, that I know, that you know' situation. Or, they throw out the small bet with the nuts (or close to the nuts) hoping you will come over the top and they can re-pop it. I use to play against this guy and I noticed he really got pissed when players bet weak into a large pot. So one night I hit the nuts on the river and bet $5 into a $200 pot. He gets really red and pushes all his chips in the middle.

Sometimes it is betting to induce spaz. You bet weak, there are people who think you are weak. It is the reverse overbet.

Here though, on the river I still only call. Raising is bad, as we don't get called by worse often enough.

It is ridiculous, but we should be happy. He's probably not calling anything if he checks and we bet, easiest money he made all night probably
