1/2 hand, 88 in CO

One interesting hand I had earlier today. Villian (BTN) is 43/18/1.49 over 218 hands.

UltimateBet $2/$4 Limit Hold'em - 5 players
The Official DeucesCracked.com Hand History Converter

UTG posts a big blind (1 SB)

Pre Flop: (2.5 SB) Hero is CO with 8 :: 8 ::
UTG checks, Hero raises, BTN calls, 1 fold, BB calls, UTG calls

Flop: (8.5 SB) J :: 4 :: 9 :: (4 players)
BB checks, UTG checks, Hero bets, BTN calls, BB folds, UTG calls

Turn: (5.75 BB) 3 :: (3 players)
UTG checks, Hero bets, BTN raises, UTG folds, Hero ?

What is your plan from this point on ?

Strange,

If the Button has a J here this is a must raise situation.
Even if he has a 9 he should raise also... although most weak players won't raise here with a weak J or a 9....

So his hand is polarized.
He must have either a very big hand that he thinks doesn't need protection or a draw.

either that or he plays really weird.

i'd look back through your hand histories and think... does the villain bet his draws on the turn? because that's about all you can beat at this point....

I would call. He may be bluffing but he may have also just got 2 pair, like 4/3 or 9/3. Anything more than a call and you are setting yourself up for disaster. If he is bluffing you lose nothing calling. Anything more than a call with 88 at this point you are going to lose more than you win in the long term. That's my thought.

Also you should check on the River and if he bets you should probably toss.

Maybe he just hit the wrong button...

either hes on a flush draw or he liked the 3, two pair or a set. if he hit big on the flop i can't imagine anyone slow playing with the flush even a loose/weak player. i think you can check the turn and on the river bet on a blank or check-call to a flush card. just keep the pot small though cause although it seems likely he has nothing its possible your beat.
