This was a recent hand that I played at Casino Niagara 1/2 NL cash game. I am just wondering if I should be slowing down here to maximize profit or is this a reasonable place to shove.

The pot had been raised PF and there is about $24.00. Three players remain and I have position with 6h 7h. I am also the deepest stacked here with around $540.00. Villian has around $360.00. Player 2 has approx. $200.00

Flop: 8c 5d 4c

Villian raises $20.00

Player 2 calls $20.00

Hero: All-in

I take down the $64.00 pot after they both fold. Villian is a regular and I would categorize him as a good player with a loose-aggressive style. I didn't know the other guy but, he seemed to be playing loose as well.
My thinking here is I do not want to see another club come down on the the next street, and I am happy to take down the pot right there.

A few questions:
Should I be playing this hand a lot more slowly to maximize value?
Do you agree that by my all-in bet at this spot is actually a little deceptive and may induce a caller?
Should I be fearful of the third club coming down as much I as I am?

Villian contemplated here for sometime, and I found out later (if he was telling the truth) that he flopped a set of 8's. Said he would have called a raise of $50.00 or so.

Try this.

On the flop:
Make a bet that doesn't give him correct odds to call.


(about $80-100.)

If he has a flush draw, he won't have correct odds to call.

If he does his the flush, then you need to "play poker" on the turn/river.

No way does dude ever fold a set of 8s in that spot and if he does he should quit poker....if you wake up with 67 and the nuts on the flop he is still live. But I agree with Reef and maybe popping it to 50-60 bucks allows people to come in and then you just re-evaluate on the turn.

I think overall the play was ok (especially) for a 1-2 game where people come in for the most part with ATC. As you get better with hand reading etc, you will start recognize the % of times villian has a club draw or what kind of two clubs he could possibly be holding in that situation.

Myself personally, playing 5/5 and above would have raised it up a bit to allow the draws to come in and then pound the turn extracting bets..and if they get there, they get there....at the end of the day you want to maximize profits and when you flop the nuts with 3-4 callers in with a raise preflop, a lot of the times people won't have cards that will help them on that flop....

If villain 1 or 2 had a shallower stack, this would be a fine raise. But since both players are relatively deep, definitely smaller raise here - and like blackmagicz said, if you give them bad odds to chase and they get there, they get there.

This was my first thought.

He probably had something like A8. As has also been said..bet just enough to price them out..you gotta make money when you can.

I hate flopping straights. Always seem to run into sets, all the money goes in the middle on the flop and they fill up by the river.

Funny thing is, it got check around on the flop. Three way all in on the turn.

And that folks is how to butcher a hand...making a disciplined laydown on that board is just as important as making the right bet when you have the nuts.
