| $52 into $13165 on Full tilt in less than 72hours...
Hi,
Just thought I'd share how well I'm running with you all since I was running terrible for over 2 months just prior to this run. Just to let you all know how quick things can indeed turn.
Just some background info. I play a lot of poker, make most of my poker money playing live cash NLH games at my local casino. I also love MTT tourneys online though, and play those quite a bit as well. I have had some decent results in the past, but after getting off to a really good start on stars for the year this spring, for the last two months I was getting destroyed.
Anyways, to make a long story short, I decided to buy in on full tilt a few weeks ago. So 3 nights ago I had exactly $52 left in my account. I played 3 tourneys, two smaller field tourneys, (a super turbo, and a $26 stud hi/lo, and a $10 rush tourney with 1150 players.
I finished top 5 in the first two tourneys and won the rush tourney for $2600 or so.
The next night played a few more small buy in tourneys and a $75 20k guarantee, missed the first few and then won the $75 tourney (250+ plrs)for $5200.
So now the following day I actually have a bankroll to afford some larger buy ins. I played 17 tourneys ranging from buy ins of around $100 to $26, with a few superturbos sprinkled in. Did not cash in one. I did however win about $700 in a Pot Limit Omahi Hi ring game. Then I signed up for last nights $100 turbo hundo (213 plrs, i think), and won it for $5600+. Bankroll now $13165
Not trying to brag at all, just wanted to share that downs can quickly turn into ups. Looking to continue the run later tonight. Take care!

Wow. That's amazing. Love the bankroll management. But then again, you a winning cash game player and I suck.
Nice. I'm jealous.

I certainly was not applying any sort of bankroll management to the $52 I had left on full tilt when I started the run. I make pretty good money playing live and I was using some of these profits to take some shots in online tourneys. Now that I have a very decent starting bankroll online, I am going to use a disciplined strategy to hopefully continue to build it.
What do you recommend then schabs? I was planning on using CF's strategy (no more than 2% of bankroll on any MTT). Which allows me at my current level to play up to $250 tourneys. I will only be playing in those sparingly though. I will be sticking to the $50-$100 range for the most part. And I will only play when I am motivated and in the mood, same as I do in live poker.
Admittedly, I have not played much cash online, but I should be playing some; as using MTT's as a sole source of bankroll growth can have huge negative swings in variance. What would you recommend as a starting point for online ring games? I typically play $2/5 and $5/10 NLH (when available) live and consistently beat both of these games for over 10bb/h.
I know how to play all of the games offered online, so whats my best bet? PLO? NLH heads up? I would limit my buy-ins to around $200 to start off, which seems conservative to me.

I wouldnt play with more than 5% of my BR in a mtt, theres also exceptions if your playing well and you feel confident there's nothing wrong with taking a stab at higher limit mtts.
As far as cash games go I like to feel comfortable at the limit and the buyin I'm playing at. For instance I usually .25/.50, .50/.1 and 1/2 PLO I want to have a MINIMUM 20 buyins according to which limit I play at. .25/50 would be minimum $1000 BR and so on.
tbh if your playing well at mtts online I'd say stick to that. Alot of people can't handle online cash game swings...alot different than a live game.
If you can stick to $50-$250 buyins and if you want the odd time and taking a stab at a bigger buyin mtt I don't see a problem there.

If you're going from live poker to online, drop your levels to .5/1 or 1/2. The play is EXCEPTIONALLY better. Also get software. I used to be a strictly live player at 1/2 and some 2/5. I had no problem beating the game, but playing the same stakes online would kill me.
I stopped playing because it was killing my soul/time, felt dirty every time i left, and decided to get a job instead.
Congrats on your big score. You're that 0.1% that got really lucky. Hitting 3 final tables is a God Run so don't let it get to your head.
