Books

Hi, today I went to Chapters and looked at the books on poker.

They ones featuring popular players such as Negreanu and Hellmuth,

But there were ones that are called "Secrets Pros won't tell you"

I didn't know which ones were good and must-reads?

They had Harrington On Holdem Part 2 which I hear is good but is it on tournament play only?

Any suggestions for good books?

I hear Mike Caro's tell book is good....they didn't have it and I watched his vide online...

Thanks.

You want a place with good/cheap poker books? Check out ABC bookstore on Spadina and Bloor or Yonge and Dundas. It's a used book store so it's hit and miss. But I found Caro's book of poker tells for 8 bucks there. And a few others.

Harrington's are absolutely critical for tournament players. MUST read as far as I'm concerned, but avoid his cash game series, not that great from what I hear. Caro's books are also MUST HAVES.

Anything from Hellmuth or Negreanu should be used for fire starting only. Not worth the price of the cover ink.

Hi, thanks for replies, I live in Vancouver soo.....

I've found a couple books and I was wondering if you guys could rank the top 2 out of the list? Thanks, also I'm more cash game rather than tournament.

Doyle Brunson Super System (1/2)

Sit n' Go strategy - Moshman

Harrington Cash games (1/2)

Green Book

Blue Book

Anyone got good recommendation for Sklansky books? Or any other book.

The Theory of Poker is a must read book, imo.

I don't think Super System (2) is super relevant in todays NL cash games, but is good on the other forms of poker.

I enjoyed the Phil Gordon books, but I don't play a lot of NL cash games so
I can't comment on their effectiveness.

My best recommendation is to save your book buying money and get a membership to an online training site. A month usually costs about 30 bucks and you can watch all kinds of videos about cash games - made by pros.

Yes, but better, especially if you are a visual learner. And definitely better if you plan to play online.
Check out deucescracked dot com. They offer a free week trial.
I have no affiliation (besides being a member there) with that site, I hope I'm allowed to refer to them here.

DC is better than cardrunners from what i hear.

If you want a significant selection, try amazon, obv. But here goes my list of general and cash game books, in no particular order:

No Limit Texas Hold 'Em by Angel Largay
NLHE - Theory and Practice by David Sklansky and Ed Miller
Professional NLHE Vol. 1 by Matt Flynn, et al
Harrington on Cash Games Vol. 1 and 2 (as a start)

If you want the cheapest best book (albeit strictly for LIMIT play) it is called something like How to Win at Texas Hold 'Em, and the author is W. Forbes Cavanaugh. It is primarily a starter kit on how to win up to and including $10/$20 Limit Hold 'Em games

Yeah, I saw that once and thought that's a pretty good deal...

Anyone hear actually done it?
How long did it take? (That's what she said)

Doyle Brunson's section on NLHE in his Super System is an absolute must read i.m.o. for anyone that wants to seriously play NLHE.

Another good, quick read is a book titled, "The only poker book you'll ever need" written by Johnny 'Quads' Wenzel. It costs about $9.95 U.S.

Good Luck

yes, a lot of people. See the separate thread on the subject. You deposit $50, play a SINGLE HAND at $0.25/$0.50 and then request your books and your refund of your deposit. Very easy.
