Donkament Sattelite to BCPC

So yeah..I am sitting down in sunny Kelowna, BC..hot weather, hot women, small bikinis and home of this season's donkament...

About 90 of us playing off today for a seat into the BC Poker Championships in November. The seat is worth 3k (2700+300). As well, with the winner take all, the winner will get a custom poker table, custom chip set, cards, clothing...and a "mentorship" from Brad Booth.

10k starting stack, 20min. smooth blinds....and here I am still debating on approach to the tourney...TAG or do I come out firing early, getting into lots of pots cheap to take as many chips early as possible? Likely, I am thinking I will just wait to feel out the first table and see which direction to go...

Brad Booth might be making an appearance this afternoon for a few hours which would be cool. 1/2 cash game ready to rock this evening in a spare hotel room rented here...

Looking like a sweet weekend!!

Play a lot of position and see if you can get cheap flops. When you have premium hands play them strong, but don't go broke with them.

Most people early on will not be making moves so keep that in mind if you get check raised or re-raised big if you don't have the stones

Ditto. Personally, I would abuse all the weak-tight players scared of +EV "coin-flips" and forever "waiting for a better spot to put chips in."

Ihaveyourname, can you please ask if the BCPC will be a Canadian Poker Tour event? I'm hoping that there will be satellites online and Ontario casinos just like other CPT major events. Good luck.

I know that Pokerstars, albeit about two weeks before the event, had satellites for the BCPC ME last year. Missed out on a seat by one fucking hand. Man that killed. Anyhow, I was going anyways so it wasn't a huge problem.

Wow!! What a city!! Hehe...forgot how nice the scenery was in Kelowna in the Summer...34 degrees, right on the beach...4-1 (ish) women to men in this town..

Very nice suite comp'd by the Poker Tour for me...hardwood floors, full size desk, 42" flatscreen, leather couch, king bed..blah blah..I could get to like this poker thing..lol

The tourney...well...didn't do nearly as well as hoped..Had an tight(normally)/aggro player across from me (that I know and have played with)..and he was hitting cards...AA twice in the first 5 hands...a few other premos and some mid pockets...

First hit..

my stack about 12.5k, he is about 15k..he is utg and raises to 1200 (blinds 100/200) also note this is a standard raise by this time at the table...for him...it folds to me and I look down to see QsQh (no clubs). He has been showing some good hands, but also mucking quite a few..playing in lots of hands, raising them all .. I min-raise to 2400 to see what is going on... he reraises to 5k. I know he is capable of this with not only monsters but AKs-AQs-JJ and med pockets. He also knows I am solid.
I call this raise and the flop comes down 4c-9c-8c..
He bets out 5k...my stack is only 7500 at this point...With his re-reraise, and lead out bet at the flop...I really feel I am beat and lay it down...if I had the club, I may have shoved...hard to say...regardless..he isn't folding.
He shows KcKh....yay me. I showed my QQ to give me some table image so that I felt I could throw some chips around and have a lot more fold equity.

Hit number 2

blinds are nearing the end of 300/600 now...stack is back to 12.5k after some stealing pots but still playing pretty tight. I am in the sb...folds to same guy who raises to 1400 (small raise for him noted)..also note at this point he has been involved in A LOT of hands..and is raising them steady..folds around to me and I have AKo. (first mistake) I flat call... bb folds, flop comes out 3-8?-J rainbow..(his stack about 19-20k now).he leads out with 2500...I contemplate for a bit...and figure him for a mediocre ace, middle pair...maybe just a suited ace or king with the amount he has been playing...his lead out bet looks standard for the steals he has been making..and I have seen him fold to reraises now. I shove. It took him a few..and he almost made the move I wanted him to..but instead called in the end..KJo. Turn kills me with another J. There is me, heading to the dugout.

Talked to the tourney director, who made a call to the golf course and set me and some friends up with free golf, free carts..cheap prime rib dinner on the patio in the Okanagan sun. Turned out to be a fantastic afternoon regardless.

Got back to the hotel, cash game just getting underway. Played a few hours there and tripled up my buy in...40 into 120 playing .25/.50. All in all, fantastic weekend. More free golf today

No buy in. Part of the Big Slick Poker Tour quarter finals. Top players from all locations play off for a sponsorship pkg.

As for the tourney..made it down to 18 players..button raised my small blind 3x in a row with a healthy stack, whereas I had about 18bb.. I look down to A6 (weak I know..but thought he was just making a move, and I had been playing pretty solid, showing only monsters when called..) So I shove...he calls with 1010. I am ok with that, no help for me.

Day one played down to two tables, and we headed back to the hotel for cash games and dinner.

Day two started with 16 players left, blinds at 1k/2k...a few short stacks so a final table was pretty quick.

Brad Booth finally rolled in, in his rented RV, hung out, dealt part of the final table, did some signing of shirts and bs'ing with all the players still hanging about.

Another great weekend in the Okanagan with Big Slick Poker Tour for sure!

Next weekend is the Grand Finale at the Edgewater Casino in Vancouver. The final tables from the four 10 week season quarter finals, plus special event winners play off for the grand prize of the year! Looking forward to this one as well!!
