Ed Miller and Poker DVD's

Im a pretty devote student to this game, and ive read a lot of books but ive never purchased any DVDs. I have the oppurtunity to get my hands on an Ed Miller Limit Holdem DVD collection which includes the following DVD's

-Reading Hands
-Adjusting your play
-Advanced Pre-flop concepts
-Protecting your hand

All of which are about 45 mins to an hour.

I recently read Ed Miller and Sklansky's Small Stakes Hold'em and while a lot of the concepts are good to know, and it may help my game in the long wrong, I wouldnt recommend the books to starters or even intermediate players as I found my game became significantly worse before it got back to normal, and then slightly improved.

Does anyone know anything about these DVDs, Ed miller, or about investing in poker DVDs in general?

PFC Tournament Wins
5 Wins Single Win Award Single Win Award
Total Awards: 3

So what you're saying is this:
You read his book and, during the adjustment phase of putting it's theories into practice you suffered a down turn in results.

However, once you made those adjustments, you rebounded and enjoyed even more success than previously seen?

Why wouldn't you reccomend the book? And why wouldn't you give the DVD's a shot?

Just curious . . .

Well, I wouldnt suggest the book because I dont think the edge that I gained was worth the losses that I took. Adding in the cost of the book, which doesnt seem like much but seeing as how the book is only relevant for small stakes poker.. the cost is an issue into one of these games.

Plus I believe that the book is geared towards advanced players who want to cripple small stakes game. Which doesnt make much sense to me, seeing as how advanced players would probably stand to make more in medium or high stakes games.

I would only recommend this book to winning players at medium stakes b&m games, who wish to switch to multitable small stakes games online.

And I didnt wanna type all of that out in my first post, lol but seeing as how you asked nicely.

And the debate for getting the DVDs is that it will cost me nearly all my FPPs on stars, which could be instead used for cash bonuses or tournament tickets.

^^That's good, though I'd recommend a deucescracked membership if you're more into Limit poker. Any training site is better than DVDs because you can get more varied and updated content.
I made a strong recommendation of SSHE in your other thread, so I won't do it again here. I would like to say that there isn't much chance you 'took losses' implementing the strategies in that book, but rather that you hit an unlucky stretch about the same time. I'd also like to ask what limits of poker you're planning on playing that you think the book won't help with? I think it's totally applicable in any live limit hold'em game.

Like I said in my other post, ill admit the losses could have been caused by a variety of factors...

Ive recently been playing 1-2 and 2-4 online. Never played small stakes before, or online. Which could also be factors in my losses. If you read my last reply on my other thread, i mentioned that its mostly Ed Millers STYLE of teaching that I dont like. I still dont advocate this book for beginners.

I also noticed that you mentioned that you think the strategies would work well in live games as high as 20-40, but only as high as 3-6 online... i guess im not the only one who finds small stakes online to be tighter games than b&m games at considerably higher limits.. any theories?

My theory is we're discussing the same thing in different threads.
Online players are far better than live players at the same limits.

I'd say 1/2 online is the equiv of 10/20 live. What your playing online is not really beginner stakes and there are a lot of players who know what they are doing at that level. In the other thread the guys are mentioning 6max. If you want looser games, 6max online limit games are full of action.
