| I don't understand
Been a poker player now for a few years ... nothing serious, just fun ... after all, it is just a game.
What I don't understand is this. I was watching Big Den today and shaking my head in disbelief at Tony G. Yes, I know it is partially insane to shake your head at a TV, but you see I am at a loss to understand how a odd looking, fat man from Lithuania thinks he is special enough to talk to players the way he does?
I do understand that this is supposed to be a sort of strategy in poker, but if I ever found myself in the unfortunate situation of sitting at a table with him, I would not tilt, I'd simply laugh at him and ask him what exactly he has going for him other than being able to play poker.
It's sad really, poker is fun tpo watch and play, but loosers like him dampen the fun. I'll stick with watching Daniel (full of class I might add) and just change the chanel with the fat man from Lithuania pops up on my TV.
Anyone else get nausious when you see or listen to this guy ?

It's his style. he is apparently a good guy away from the tables. He has perfected the art of putting people on tilt. He even did it to Isabel Mercier which is worth something.
I'm okay with Tony G. Helmuth's whining though is what gets to me.
Welcome to the board.

Welcome to the forum.
I agree 100%
It's unfortunate that players can get rewarded for being obnoxious at the table.
The solution ...
Physical Violence.
Behead one and the rest of them will refrain for the remainder of the session.
:-)

I am starting to agree with you about Phil as well ... used to be entertaining but getting stupis now. Like Tony G, it is a table image thing, but when Phil stands there and calls people idiots 10 times, it is gone to far and should not be allowed ...
Great site here ... glad I found it!

Sadly,
That which gets shown on TV == Stuff that TV producers think will attract the audience that will in turn attract ad revenue and get him a salary bonus.
Sadly very few of the top poker players are telegenic.
So that leaves for the most part.
Ugly/Fat boring nice guys.
Ugly/Fat obnoxious players.
So when the hotties are out of the field that leaves....

C'mon...really......Tony G is good T.V. IMO.
My favourite moment with him is in the Monte Carlo Millions a couple years ago ( I think ).....where he made some move with 2nd pair, gets called by an overpair, and sucks out on river.....when he goes on to berate the caller, telling him he should never had called, 'I played it like I had set' (after scooping the pot)......that was awesome.

both tony g and phil are said to be great guys away from the table. Yes what they do at the tables is for show and can go overboard at times, but it can also just be another tool in the box too.
I know i'm no angel at the tables either.

I think I know what you are talking about T8urmoney ... was that the one where he went after the russian? Told him to go back to Russia? If that is the one, his fellow pros even agreed he went way to far ...
Agree with earlier post ... things like this sells so that is what the producers want...

Honestly, I think Tony G is hilarious and entertaining to watch.
Phil Hellmuth on the other hand is a whiney baby.
Here is the Ralph Perry one:

What's wrong with that guy lol, he seems pretty loud and annoying. I love how the commentators are saying he played the A2 hand brilliantly, guess the russian guy's not allowed to have a7 or 55 or something random and instead the brilliant player managed to get it in as a 60% favorite. Trying to induce a call with A2 when 3 bet-shoving is suicide, no matter how you put it
He seems retarded enough, probably not the sharpest guy away from the tables either

I love how he tells him "wow good call" and is shocked to see what the guy called with but then when he sucks out on the river he basically calls him an idiot lol
IMO I think he made a decent call and Tony G even if he played like a set the guy obviously read him correctly or just had a gut feeling which was technically right this time but just really unlucky

I would throw my chair at Tony G. Always thought he was a douche bag, and these videos just confirm it even more. Who cares if he's good for TV, he's bad for the game.

I'm actually surprised that he's allowed to verbally abuse people so badly without getting penalized or something. Shouldn't the floor man be stepping in at some point?
Of course, poker is a mental game and putting someone on tilt is allowed, but isn't there something in the rules (maybe Robert's) where 'the line' is mentioned?
