I just may be getting a bit better

Hand history at the bottom for reference.

This hand was not a bad beat, or involving any large amount of money or really anything to interesting.

What it was is a moment when i actually did stop, and say even with the amount of money already invested it's not worth going forward. I actually bet for information, and it was an ephony at the value of putting in those small bets now to get out of a hand before you start butting in big bets in later rounds.

A mid position player raises, and i decide to call to call with AT(sooooted hearts).

Flop comes down Ad 7s Qh

He bets, i raise and squeeze out the other players, then he reraises me and I call. Turn is a brick. He bets.

Now old me: Calls this down and likely loses.

New me: Says what could he have raised with preflop. In the time i was there he wasn't overly tight but i hadn't seen him raise any hand, including mid pocker pairs, so likely AA, KK, QQ, AK and maybe JJ. Now what cards could he re-raise with and attack again with on the turn. My mind said if he is bluffin then good job to him, but to 3 of the 4 likely hands he raised with (except KK) i lose.

So i type "show em" and fold my hand face-up. He shows me the AK.

I lost that hand but in every way possible i consider it a victory, in the progress of my poker game.

And in advance, please don't tell me that i shouldn't have been in a raised pot with ATs or that showing my cards was the wrong thing to do.

Nice. Very nice. The whole 'what hands could he play this way that I can beat' mindset is crucial, and is:

A) Tough to learn, and
B) Tough to put into practice at the table.

Cheers,

oh that all aces

Good posts.

You must be the all aces I was watching (earlier) tonight. You and tc represent the game well. Hopefully we'll see a Canadian at the final table of a large online tourney next week.
