Re: NEED MORE HANDS

All right.

Here's a decision I was put to yesterday.

I was driving onto the 401, and had the choice between express and collectors.Â* Now, the highway sign said that express was moving slowly and that collectors was moving well.

So I thought, well, everyone's gonna read that, and go onto the collectors. (Level 1 thinking)

So, would I be better off going onto the express, if everyone else reads that sign and goes onto the collectors, thereby congesting the collectors MORE than the express lanes?Â* (Level 2 thinking)

Or, would everybody ELSE think that too, and go onto the collectors after all, knowing that most people would assume that most people would read the sign and do the opposite of what it recommends?Â* (Level 3 thinking)

What's your play here?

Any feedback appreciated, results to follow.

Re: NEED MORE HANDS

Go with Level 4 thinking here.

Pull over to the shoulder, stop your car, get out, and start singing "Everybody Hurts".

Re: NEED MORE HANDS

Stay in the lane you're in if it's the slowest possible lane. Â*Everybody knows that it's scientifically proven that whatever lane you change to will become the slowest lane, hence STAYING in the slowest lane, will cause all the other idiots to move into another lane, hence making that lane the slowest possible lane, thus improving the relative speed of your lane. Â*If it's the fastest lane, then you should correspondingly seek the slowest lane by the same logic that the other idiots will try to invade your lane, making it the slowest. Â*

Re: NEED MORE HANDS

I think this all depends on the limits your driving in, and how aggressive others around you are driving. What is your image? Do they see you as some old granny with your left turn signal on for the last five km, or do they see you as a maniac driving as fast as you can? Are they even paying attention to the road, or are they eating, tuning in the radio/changing a CD, reading the newspaper, shavng/putting on makeup, etc. If they aren't paying attention, higher level thinking is wasted on them. In that case you gotta stay on express.
You need to decide which way to go based on all the information you can see. Personally, I believe wearing sunglasses will help them from getting a read as to where you may be looking to go. This may help to prevent others from cutting you off making a move to change lanes to get ahead of the rest.
My advise after all of this is, if you are unsure what to do after all these considerations, go with your gut. Your experience driving these roads before will help you to make the better choice in the long run.

There is not enough information, we need to know what time was it when you were driving, were you going east or west, what is your lane position in relation to the other cars, and what is your lane image?

Fair enough.

Time: about 3:00 pm on a Thursday afternoon.
Bearing: West
Lane position: I wasn't in a lane on the 401 yet, I was on the Allan about to get on the 401.
Lane image: tight aggressive

Re: NEED MORE HANDS

3:00 pm on a Thursday you shouldn't be taking the 401 anyway, East or West.

Re: NEED MORE HANDS

Express your way home.
Your level two thinking here is deep enough. Your opponents are not capable of moving past level one thinking.
I suspect that this is the route you took.
