I'm just starting to play Omaha Hi and apparently I don't understand the rules. By looking at the attached picture, can someone please tell me:

1) Why didn't 'corgex' win with a flush?l

2) Why did it say that 'SryAboutUrLuck' won with Queens and Fours instead of Queens and Eights?

Because, in Omaha, each player MUST use 2 cards from their hand, and 3 cards from the board.

Thus, Corgex, can only use 2 of the 3 clubs in his hand and CANNOT make a flush. Queens and fours is a better than 88's.

I knew that you must use two cards from your hand, but I didn't know that it was two and only two.

Easiest way to read...

In order for a ....

Straight: Three to a straight must be on the board.

Flush: Three to a flush must be on the board.

Full house: Board must be paired.

Straight Flush: Must have three SF cards on the board.

After understanding like that, Omaha becomes a matter of levels. Using the four definitions above, it makes 5 levels.

1. Board without three cards to straight / flush and not paired? Best hand is three of a kind.

2. Board with three cards to a straight, non paired? Best hand is the high straight

3. Board with three cards to a flush non paired? Best hand is A-high flush

4. Paired board? Best hand is four of a kind. If you have one of the paired board cards, best hand is a full house (NOTE: Best full house is almost always out there, a lot of money is lost with the under-boat).

5. Three to a straight flush on the board (paired or not), then the Straight flush is the nuts - though it happens more than in Hold 'em, they are still fairly rare.

The hands that lost / make the most money is in level 4. Having an under-boat is devestating. Most of the rest of the money is made when drawing in levels 2&3 when someone is hoping to pair the board against another's made hand.
