Bit of confusion ... you say 10 was all-in and then you say he called. Leaving that aside, it appears to me that you played the hand well and got unlucky.
You got it all-in when you were a 3-1 favourite. Then, he drew out on you.
Flip the question around for a moment. Suppose that the A-K player was deeper in chips. If you simply call and the flop comes 8-6-2 how will you get more money from him? You might indice a bluff. Or, maybe not. You might get him to call you. Or, maybe not. Pre-flop, however, we will probably call unless you put in a HUGE re-re-re-raise but the chips were not deep enough for that.
