Pre flop raise question

Blinds are 24-50
UTG says raise and throws in one 500 chip.
How much is the bet?

500...

Unless it's Limit / PL... otherwise... UTG had to declare amount.

Agreed. $500 is the bet.

If he throws in a $500 without saying raise, then it is just a call.

Pre-flop Raise Question

What gets me sometimes is when playing live, I see people who have the necessary chips to make just the call throw in a larger denomination chip, just to make the call. They don't say 'raise' or anything to that effect, but it confuses me and other players a great deal.

I know there's one group of people that I play with, there's always a discussion about this every time because there's always someone who tosses a chip in and forgets to say 'raise'.

Well, since he said 'raise,' I'd conclude that it is
$500 and that the BB must call$450.

A single chip is a call unless you are first to act in the betting round or you announce your intention. This is usually standard tournament practice.

Also, since DrTyore didn't completely dismantle this post...

'First to act' should read 'first to bet'.

I could see if he said 450, and threw in a 500 chip.....if he jus threw in 500 he may jus be calling who knows right. That's why I think verbal is better than jus throwing ur chips in.
