Renting a room to have a tourny in Markham, Ontario

This is my first post here..Gotta quick question regarding running a poker tourny. I want to organize an event for around 10-20 players but don't wanna use my house as the location. Does anyone know what places can be rented for a day to hold a tourny?

What about the legalities of holding an event like this where there is prize money (only like $300). (only $30 entry fee but I guess any amount might be illegal?)..

if no rake, I don't see a problem. Not unless the players have to pay for the room. Why not just hold it at one of the player's houses (garage) and then there are no issues?

Most of the people I would not have met before so I hestitate to have it at my house or garage. The players would have been brought together by a group I created on a website that people join.

So far I got responses from some city rental places and they told me that gambling is not allowed in their facilities. As soon as they hear "poker" its considered gambling regardless if their is a rake, fee or whatever, I guess.

Funny how you can hold a eucre tourny and no one cares about is it gambling :/ Poker gotta bad rep.

Poker brings out all the degenerates, that's why it has a bad name. Just browse through any sign up list for a West Side event to see what I mean.

if you get the event running in either case, let me know (pokerjah@rogers.com) as I live in Richmond Hill so Markham is not too far away. Some of the legions don't seem to mind holding poker tournaments so this might be an option. Finding tables might also be an issue.
