Weak tight?

I played this hand last night and am wondering what your thoughts are on the river, I thought about this long and hard before folding...

Let me know what you think, to tight? Or am I just calling to split or lose? My read on the player was that he had played very few hands however played them well when he did, I'd say ABC, nothing really jumped out at me...

What hands beat you? AA, JJ, or 4x. I can see a solid player calling the pre-flop raise with 44 (which isn't possible), but not with 4x. JJ probably raises or folds on the flop, so while possible, I'd discount that. The only hand I'd be worried about would be a massively slow-played AA, but you're more likely to see AQ or AJ (which you sucked out on). I might fold against a super-tight/passive player, but against a normal player at these limits - I call here.

Its 4 handed at a 6 max table, so the calling range can be a lot wider. Ah4h?

I was beginning to think that from reading the hand history. If he has a 4 that's what he called with.

Good point - missed the SH part. I'd still call though

With the way the hand played out is it reasonable to think that I am only calling to chop or lose? Is this poor lines of thinking? 3 hands that beat me, and only one reasonable hand (Ax, not A4) that I tie. I can't see many players making this play with the J-boat or King high. I wasn't playing super aggressive or anything either...

if he had raised a huge amount, i'd seriously consider folding. but calling 20 bucks to get back 16 at worst doesn't seem terrible when there's a good chance you're getting back a whole lot more.

Assuming he doesn't have JJ and that you will chop at best, he would have to have the case 4 (or AA) 45% of the time to make folding correct here. That seems high, so calling even just to chop seems to be the best play.

I say this is a pretty tough decision. There are very few hands that have you beat, but I could conceivably see myself or someone else playing Aces full of fours or the quads like that. I would have to either be in a live game and get a tell on the guy or have extensive knowledge of the way he plays for this to be easy.

I could not possibly fold in this spot on the river.

I think he might have shown a flush. Something like KQs or K10s.

Did you really fold here?

That surprises me, but you're about to show him with A4 or JJ aren't you and show us all your great reading ability aren't you?

I would have called.

If he's bad enough that your river bet makes sense here then you definitely should call. I'd usually check the river though because worse hands basically never call unless he's awful.

Ok thanks for the comments guys, I questioned myself after this hand and thought I may be able to get away from this. I wanted some honest answers rather then people just agreeing with me so I may have mislead you a bit...

I think he played this hand beautifully although likely could have taken my whole stack on the flop.

Here is the real hand...

Nice call Flint! I wish my read was that good in this hand, I was shocked to see AA!
