Re: what makes a good poker room?

Actually number 1 is the attitude of the players. I go to enjoy myself not to constantly watch some players belittle others, the dealers etc. There are a few clubs where strictly the clientelle being the number one reason I won't return.

Number 2 is the attitude of the management. Do they treat players with respect or as just another way to make coin. I've seen some pretty bizarre rulings in a casino along with their holier than tho attitude at times.

After that I can put up with a lot.

Re: what makes a good poker room?

I assume you are talking about clubs and venues, and I only have been to a couple, but I agree with Joe...the people make a world of difference. Both players and management must treat you with respect as well as be able to handle the bad beats of the game.

Now the PERSONAL poker room needs that as well, but also a more homier atmosphere too. Comfy seats are a must if you really want to impress, good lightening is mandatory, a game on the tube to distract players, and a small fridge very close by. Along with a small snack table too.

If the place rakes (i'm assuming the kind of place you're talking about does) then I expect some of that profit to be spent on the players. Snacks, nice table, good lighting, comfortable seating, good dealers and the like are things I expect. I like playing with a large variety of players so who else is at the table doesn't really bother me.

I would have to agree with Joe.. Plus i believe it is the attitude of the people running some of these places. You know or OK being a woman. I know when i walk into a place just by feel how it will be...Comfort is best.. If your not comfortable there don't go back.. Players attitudes i believe depends on the place and how it is run.. I think most places would put an end to any players who show to much attitude.. But then again....

Re: what makes a good poker room?

Just as everyone else has said, attitude is #1.
Think of why you return to the same establishments over and over (i.e. restaurants, stores, etc) and I'm sure "how they treat me" will be a common denominator.
The rest of the stuff -- chairs, food, decor -- will fall into place after.

Re: what makes a good poker room?

I think it depends on the reasoning behind the game. Wether the players are there to have a good time, or wether they are there to make some good money. I find casual players who are out to have a good time win or loose are really great to play with, likewise players that are out to win good money are generally good to play with also, unless they are the type that wear there emotions on their sleeves. I find this usually creates an uncomfortable sisuation for everyone. As far as seats... I myself can have a good time playing poker sitting on a milk crate haha. Same goes for everything else, for me its all about who your playing with.

Poker rooms will always have players will big attitudes and big egos, it's part of the game unfortunately.
there always seems to one of "those" at the table.
You know the saying, "if you can't spot the A-hole at the table within the first 20 minutes..."

I agree attitude is very important, put a couple jerks at the table and I will get up and drive home to play online.

I prefer to sit quietly and wait for my spot and then apply the "slap". Then I tell them how lucky I was as they are putting on their coat..
