What is your opinion on Phil Hellmuth?

Or any of the big name TV poker stars, Negreau, Brunson, Tony G etc..

I have to say I've really become a huge fan of Poker on TV after all these years of it being on all the time it's gotten to me.

I ask because well sometimes I have pulled a Hellmuth and I'm thinking it's probably not the best idea to get that intense in person live.

Also when you play live Poker do you have the shades out with the hat so others have a tougher time with reading you, do you have reading abilities?

Poker on tv now is not dead yet, i belive its dying a very slow death, watch some of the old stuff, HSP seasons 1,2,3,4 thats some of the best stuff put on TV at least when the pros just talk and be more open and honest with each other...season 2 of HSP is hard enough to follow with the prop betting, but does add more excitement in its own way.

As for the pros, alot changes quickly more of the less spoken pros and pretty much not on TV have really felt their games benefit because their hands are not shown, or analized by anyone unless THEY give up said information, Ivey doesnt really get alot of TV time, the time he has on TV he really downplays so he doesnt get attention along with sam farha, erik sidal(cant spell). Not to say in anyway they are bad, but with phil hellmuth and daniel they spend almost so much time on TV when they are live and out there, people are far more to go after them thinking they are getting robbed whatever because big TV personalites. No matter how good or bad you are if your getting looked up or put to the test in EVERY hand EVERY spot you play which they and most TV personalites do, your taking alot from your poker game and then need to make more and get more hands......weve all played enough poker, no one gets a hand all the time, i spend alot of my sitting folding!!

I turned on Global the other night. World Poker Tour 1 hr show. High Rollers
I never heard of anyone sitting at the table.
Mike sexton was talking and sitting beside him Jessie ( I need a new hairstylist) May. WTF was that. Not even a giggle for a whole hour.

I think we have been over loaded with Poker on Tv.
A lot of it is crap now. Premier Poker on Game Tv. I know I have said this before but to sit and listen to Jessie May giggle and I don't know how they can say these players are 12 of the Best in the world.
I sit and watch the world series on Tv when on.

Marcel Luske-Phill Hellmuth-Devilfish-Vicky Coren-Annie Puke-Ian Frazier-
Tony G - Andy Black- Roland DeWolfe- I can't remember the rest of the names right now.
I used to enjoy watching the WPT final tables on city tv . A good way to kill 2 hours before going to play ball in the summer.

PPT Dead and Buried , Thank god for that. Gotta love how they used the click track of applause when someone busted out.

TV poker is not "real" poker. As entertaining as an individual may find it (or not), it is still an edited version of a longer series of events. I much prefered watching the on-line feeds that I have seen, even though you do not get the luxury of the hole-card cams. At least on those feeds you can get into the game, by trying to figure out what each player has, follow betting patterns. You can even feel good when you catch someone making a "move" and can remember how they set it up . . . two hours earlier. I rarely watch TV poker anymore.

Phil Hellmuth is a complete ass, on TV. His mole is okay, though . . .

I think Phil Hellmuth has taken it down a few notches this past year. He promised himself he would try and work harder and not being such an ass. I don't think that's a possible feat for Phil but I do think his overall style of play is pretty good. He plays good hands and seldom bluffs but isn't afraid to pull one off once in a while. I heard that Phil and Ferguson's moles are actually related. Is this true? As for TV Poker, I still catch the odd WSOP event on the tube and enjoy a Poker After Dark episode here and there. If it wasn't for the television and the hockey strike in 2004 I would still be playing cribbage and rummy.......lmao!!

I think Hellmuth is adjusting to the modern tournament game as best he can. He is just terrible at cash games if HSP et al are any indication.

He is one of the greatest tournament players of all time. Remember he has to dodge more mines in a MTT as players will try to bust him with garbage hands to set him off on a rant on TV.

As for TV cash games, we've all seen him make some (OK a lot) of really, really bad/strange plays. I almost wonder if he is playing outside his normal game to create some super-donk image. I'd like to see him play a high limit table with no TV camera and see how he fares.

i really think that phil hellmuth just uses his rep as a means to make money. i think he used to actually blow up at the tables and throw crazy rants. now i think he realizes that attitude is what makes him the famous phil hellmuth so he does it intentionally.

and i think he's one of the worst high stakes cash game players around.

He's good for the game, after a while watching games of just Juanda, Harmen, and others that are more quite at the table can get boring pretty quick.

That's why I love Matusow, a hilarious guy to watch.
