Trip Report

I had a great time even though I didn't cash. M and J are a great host couple. Lots of food and drinks available. Nice house. They have cats so bring your allergy meds if needed. I think KW Steve and I were the only new people there, the rest seemed to know each other, but we felt welcomed. There were only 11 players total, a few cancelled at the last minute which is typical. We started 15 minutes late waiting for a few people to show up.

The location is fairly convenient, not too far from Fischer-Hallman and Highland. They have one oval poker table, a nice square dining table that seats 8, and a generic folding table. The chips are typical dice chips so no pics are necessary, but they work. The cards were basic Bicycles so some investment in some nicer cards would be nice. They did use 2 decks per table which kept the game moving pretty quick.

It was a rebuy/addon and most did at least one rebuy and one addon. The used an app on a smart phone for the tournament clock, and we ended up tweaking the blinds a bit as they were increasing pretty fast. Blinds were 20 minutes long with a 10 minute break every 3 levels.

We moved to one table when we got down to 9 and the top 4 paid. I went out in 6th but hung around to the end. KW Steve and Basil(?) chopped for first. We were done around 740pm. A cash game was starting but I didn't stay. I think Steve did so maybe he can comment on the quality of the cash game.

Overall a great experience and I plan to go back. They are planning a $50 freezeout on Dec 3. I would encourage other forum members to attend.

Glad to hear it wasn't a scamfest.

If the next tournament is Dec 3, I will do my best to be there.

I concur with JacNoK.

Very friendly atmosphere and a nice spread of food to be had. At the end of it there were only 4 people wanting to play cash so we decided against it.

Overall, it was a fun time, lots of laughs. and good card playing. No scams here, just two people who were hosting their first tourney and are learning the ropes. I would definitely go back again.

To M and J, thanks for hosting.

PS. There's a game store on the corner of Weber and University in Waterloo that sell Copaqs for $20/set (2 decks).

Congratulations to KWSteve for a great showing! Chopping with Basil in the end as the two went heads up.

I alas, finished as the bubble boy and J busted out when her kings ran into Aces.

Thank you JacNok and KWSteve for coming out and your kind words. Your suggestions came well received and you made the tournament better!

We will be hosting a freezeout tournament on December 3rd but I will post up an official announcement with the details when I have more time.

Cheers!
