I'm shocked that only 49 ladies could be bothered to play in a tournament that only cost $125. Even the ladies-only events at Great Blue Heron Casino and Casino Brantford don't have enough ladies to fill the event, and some men decide to invade and ruin the ladies' fun. Is there any hope for ladies events in Canada?

Perhaps If more players had your attitude Blondefish

I think the problem is lack of advertising and support/understanding form the poker community.

I went to this event. I found out about a week before through an email. I told a few friends (none of who had heard about it) only one made the last minute trip. When I returned I had 2 friends actually upset with me for not telling them about it, insisting they would have come. I never saw this thread until after the tourney, as I live in Ontario and wouldn't think to look in the Quebec Local Games section.

When I arrived to the last ladies tourney I went to @ Brantford my table was discussing an email OLG sent out saying they were now having ladies and gentlemen's separate events. I got this email but at least half the table was complaining they did not and were signed up to both winners circle and olgpoker. They asked the TD but he just brushed them off. He smiled and said he would talk to the "email people". During the break I ran into another regular who was just arriving to play cash. She had no idea about the change and said she would have played if she knew it was ladies only. If regulars are not even aware of the changes how can we hope to get back players that have left or attract new ones?

Support from the poker community could help spread the word about these events and fill the seats. Pressure from players to offer better quality events (Patience Factor for ladies $60 @ Brantford is 3.57 and $80 bounty is 4.8) could attract more players.

As a poker player I support ladies or any special tourney that could potentially attract new players. The Casino hopes these special events will attract new players who would otherwise never play poker in a casino or at all. When these players feel comfortable or have maybe won some $$$ the casino hopes they sit down at a cash game/play another tourney. As a player, I hope the same thing as the casino. I would be delighted to have a new/inexperienced player with false confidence sit at my table any day. I feel like if ladies events or any special events suddenly became popular and sold out on a regular basis we would be enjoying a steady stream of new/inexperienced players, more $$$ in the poker economy. All good things for poker players.

As a women, I specifically support ladies events because I know that female players are as competent, as their male counterparts with similar experience level. That gender is only an issue because poker is so male dominated. I would love to see a day when it was normal to enter a tournament with 50% women registered in an open event. I think the results would not be male dominated any longer. Stats between genders would be pretty much equal and gender comparisons wouldn't mean much. So far away, but it will never happen until more women are encouraged to play.

This is not meant to be a rant by any means or to offend anyone. Just trying to give my opinion on Blondefish’s question regarding what can be done about ladies events. Why poker players should care and how I think it would benefit everyone in the long run.

Ha Ha Philli!

My husband is not a big fan of me posting on well anything really. Almost everyone I met in the online poker community just assumed I was male and it made my husband feel better not to correct them. He was supportive when I ran a BAP on PTP for pokerstars women's league a few years back. Since then, I haven't purposely avoided discussing my gender if it was relevant, or try to hide it. Sorry if I ever gave u the wrong impression.

What ever did happen to the P* women's league? My wife was very keen on playing in those and did so for a while, then they disappeared. An individual player appeared to have tried to revive them through home games, but that fizzled as well from what I understand.

I couldn't understand it at the time. They appeared to have growing numbers, then it died.

Yes it was great the first year $5 dailys, $11 sundays and I think the Sunday$55 may have counted for points.

Then last year they replaced it with a $0.10 & $1.10 league.

Good news for your wife Wild Bill- the $5.50 league is back. Games run @ 6am, 2pm and 9pm daily EST. You can only play in one a day. She can find it in the private section in the tourney tab. The games are of course pink and easy to see. There is still a $0.10 & $1.10 league if she is interested. Not sure of start times.

Weekly special games are the women's $55 on sundays and $11 on tuesdays. No league. Sattys run daily for all of these I believe.

More info here:

PokerStars Women?s Poker League

Hope to see her on the tables!!

Thanks for the info Gottaget. I will let her know.

It actually works out well for the both of us. If she's playing..... That kind of opens up the door for me to play (different tourney obviously)! I've dropped my online play to basically just playing the forum games for the past year or so and I'd like to get back into it.

I suck at poker as many will attest to, but my generosity with money is a hobby I'd like to reinvent.

She was playing some of the forum tourneys here for a while, but the 'maleness' in the chat box was getting annoying for her and she opted out after a while.

Anyhoo, thanks again.
