Casino/Hotel Comps

I'm contemplating a poker trip with some buddies to go down to Vegas or Atlantic City. I know that some casinos will comp poker players by giving them free or discounted room rates. Has anyone ever experienced this? Do you just call ahead to the casino, or do you have to show up and play a certain number of hours before they offer it to you? Also, what cities/casinos are good for comps? I've heard that Vegas is actually really bad for comping players, and that Mesquite is much better.

Being a poor, starving student and all, a discounted room rate would be a big help.

When you get off the plan in Vegas just yell out "Woody sent me".
They will take care of you!

To find out about poker room rates, the best way is to call the individual casinos (normally their toll free phone numbers work from Canada too). Ask them how much the poker rate is, and what the requirements are in terms of poker play.

Sometimes getting rated for your poker play is something as simple as telling the floor/brush you are on a poker room rate when you start playing. Sometimes you'll need to swipe a frequent player card. If you want to play in a tournament, ask if that counts or not.

For general information about comps in Vegas, check out

www.cheapovegas.com

They have some information on what sorts of players get comps (i.e. how much you need to bet). If you want comps other than at poker, the best thing to do is to ask at the table as to what the comp rating standard is.

I wonder if this isn't more likely to get you propositioned than comped...

The specific requirements depend on the individual poker room. For example, at the Bellagio to get the poker room rate you must clock in and out on your first trip after that it is on the honour system.

Others, like the Orleans during the Orleans Open do not check at all, you just call and ask for the tournament room rate and they give it to you no questions asked.

Another good site to check out for deals when in vegas is:

www.lasvegasadvisor.com

Some stuff you need to be a member to view but there is plenty of free info on the site and it is updated regularly.

I got "comped" exactly .50$/hr playing 2/4 in AC based on a card you swipe when sitting down and when leaving poker room. This was at borgota and i was told same everywhere. So if you just play long enough you can get a free room....don't forget to write.
