Any idea what the blinds are like? With only 2500 chips I can't imagine the blinds allow room for much play after the first few levels.

I went to a couple of their tourneys two years ago but have not bothered to return.
I really like Blue Heron's new register by phone option.

http://www.casinorama.com/
"Registration for each of our bi-weekly tournaments begin on the Wednesday following each Tournament. Check-in and seat allocation will start at 10:30am on tournament dates, with play beginning at 12 noon.

Participants must register in-person in the Poker Room and admittance is on a first-come first-serve basis. Initial buy-in is $275 (+ $25 administration fee) for which every player will receive $2500 in tournament chips."

I have the blind schedule at work which I can post once i get back to my office, they e mailed it to me there. I've never played one of their tourney's so I can't really comment on the set up and duration as a player. I have been meaning for a year to go and play and haven't mostly due to work committments. Rama is only 50 minutes from me max so it's the closest to play a casino tourney.

edit: Ok I can't find the e mail from Rama that they sent me in 2005, I must have deleted it. I think I"m going to play on the 22nd so I'll post the schedule after that.

Can you post the blind schedule if you have it available?

25 minute rounds

25/50
50/100
100/200
100/200 25
200/400 50
300/600 100
400/800 100
600/1200 200
800/1600 200
1000/2000 300
1500/3000 500
2000/4000 500
3000/6000 1000
5000/10000 1500
7500/15000 1500
10000/20000 2000
15000/30000 3000
20000/40000 4000

If there were 5000 starting chips, the structure would be quite good. With only 2500, it's a little thin. If you don't do anything in the first 50 minutes, a standard PF raise eats up 1/3 of your starting stack.

Holy crapshoot, Batman! I thought the previous structure did not have antes, but if this is the current structure, then it is even worse than I thought. The Skill Level is only 2 ; in other words, there is not much skill you can use before you get blinded off after less than five blind levels.

I'm surprised a $300 MTT would offer so little poker play. I hope the $400 tournament in June will have a lot better structure; otherwise, there are many better tournaments to spend that $400 on.

now that they have announced an increase in the starting stack to 4,000, how does this change the rating of this tournament? Kind of reminds me of Red Hot tournaments with the add-on of antes, although the blind levels are a little longer (5 minutes).

This helps a little bit; but not that much.

The skill level is now a 3, and the patience factor is 5.33 (it was 2, and 4.07 before). What that means is you will get blinded off about halfway through the 6th blind level, instead of the 5th.

To compare this, a great tournament I just played in georgetown, you won't get blinded off until the 10th level. (skill level 6).

But a 3 is certainly better than a 2.

I have an excel spreadsheet that calculates the skill level and patience factor as per Arnold Snyder's "Poker Tournament Formula" http://www.pokertournamentfomula.com.

Here, I've attached it. (Had to zip it, you can't attached .xls files apparently.)

You just enter the blind structure, and starting chips, and voila... patience factor and skill level are determined.

thanks, that spreadsheet is helpful. Kind of like the formula I tried to develop at one time.
