| CNE Trip Report (Brief)
Monday night/early Tuesday morning -- I arrive at 2am and immediately get seated in a full 10 20 game.
The dealers at my table for the most part were not bad, speed was OK and not too many errors...much better than reports from poker playing friends. Certainly not as good as most underground dealers or 20 40 casino dealers, but certainly bareable.
Action filled game with HUGE fish -- capped 11 ways preflop a few times, 7 ways often. 3 betting 83s UTG +1, it's nirvana...why do they close it, can I picket for 24h poker? THE BEST 10 20 game I have ever sat in, period. $800-$1000 pots not uncommon. If you are a good player with a suitable 10 20 bankroll and know how to effectively adjust your game, then this is certainly the best action in the GTA...highly recommended, two thumbs up, five stars, beddy beddy good...I will be playing there several times a week and forgoing 20 40 at GBH until the ex closes. If you can't beat this game then quit poker and take up stamp collecting with BBC.
Avoid the hot dogs, even starving at 430am they ain't yummy.
Good luck, let me know if you're going, Ill be there next late on Thursday night.

I found they have certain crazy periods at the Ex. I call them the 12am happy hour and the last call happy hour.....
I am glad to see I am not the only one that finds this the juciest game in the world. I know why we don't have a casino in toronto. Could you imagine this game on a daily basis, 365 days a year. You wouldn't need to work. |

I hate the charity casino rules that prohibit no-limit hold'em, but maybe it's time to re-read my limit poker books. "Let's Go to the Ex!"

Just go in with a bankroll that can fluctuate and take the up and downs.

I visited the CNE Casino after I got two bad beats in a row in a cash tournament (but still made the money). Neither the dealers nor the players were as bad as I have read. I did get my VIP passes for free admission and parking at the CNE.

It is 5% rake. I didn't notice anybody bothering to check if the dealer's calculation is correct. Quote: |

It's 5% Max rake $7.50 in the 5/10
5% Max rake $10.00 in the 10/20
This is a pretty expensive rake compared to other places that have Max $4... or Max $5.
The place is a dump. If you like a smelly warehouse full of people with a welfare eye for clothes this is your venue.
One improvement over last year. I did not get the dealer who smelled so badly I vomited....
The $7 hamburgers are garbage.
The $3 water is a rip off
Half the chairs are torture devices... your butt will be sore.
The washrooms are putrid.
The water fountain had vomit in it.

The high rake is really irrelevant as the play is so poor. I am usually one to avoid highly-raked games, but I don't see the problemfor me in this setting.
I don't really care about the ambiance, I'm there to play poker not to admire my surroundings. The decor isn't any worse than most undergrounds.
The poor office chairs are the same as at any underground, the swivel chairs are much better than standard underground seating.
I notice that you didn't mention anything about the play, which is really the issue with choosing a game.
Yes, the food sucks and is overpriced, welcome to the ex.a

Yes, you do have to pay for water or other drink. I got my free unlimited parking and admission to the CNE and Ontario Place until September 4, so I am not complaining. Another good thing is that the separate poker room is air-conditioned. Now if only I can figure out the strategy differences between no limit and limit.... Quote: |

Hey Blonde, let me know when you will be down again. I'll be there every free waking minute until Sept 4. The next free waking minute will likely be Monday.
