| Costa Rica Poker
Went to Casino Del Ray tonight trying to play some 1/2 NL. It is in downtown San Jose and while I brought money with me I thought $400 was enough to play some cards...... 1/2 NL min buy in 100 US max Buy in is $700. 2/5 Min buy in $400 Max Buy in 2K. There was 1 1/2 table in play with 8 players and over 9K on the table..... some very huge stacks..... I regretted not bring more coin. Mostly gringos with lots of money. But I don't want to buy into a game with 2 stacks of over 1K with no ammo to fire at...,...
On a complete aside, I flew out of detroit and took down the Caesars Windsor 65 dollar buy in on Wednesday night before leaving for here..... it was a nice cash of just over 1K. Their chop rule sucks because I had more chips than my opponents combined and the rule is a complete 3 way split instead of chopping by chips... we played it out was good.
I am heading to Los Suenos Casino tomorrow to play a tourney (I won my way in so I am free rolling). Limited to 35 people with a top prize of 2K and paying 8 people..... hoping the run good keeps going.
Jeff, Spirit was everything you said and less but it got me here and it will hopefully get me home..... And for those who come here and go to the del ray casino.... I bet there was 200-300 hookers in the casino, bar, restaurants and everything....... If you just gamble it may not be the place to go. I was fortunate I was there with friends including several women and one girl while I was standing talking to Becky wouldn't leave me alone until I said your gonna get me in trouble with my wife....
I'll post more after tomorrows tourney and I hope we don't play by costa rican rules as wetts told me they play funny shit with tourneys here...

iirc the costa rican tournaments I played not only had weird stuff going on with the blind levels, but also allowed rebuys up until the final table!

The correct plays will depend on the effective stack size, e.g., your 100 BB; it doesn't matter if your opponent has over 500 BBs.

What was the rake?
Did you feel safe that the game didn't have cheating?
What was the level of play at the 1/2 and 2/5 table? Were they running bigger games?

Thought about trying to win a package to an LAPT event, as I've never been to South America. I see Costa Rica isn't on their list however....maybe next year.
