From an unbiased point of view (ie: I pretend it wasn't me you chased the gutshot against) it was a dubious play. And, certainly, hopefully, not "your best play". Nice chatting with you, though!

i don't know how to take that . . . i would have never done it normally but i had just heard a crazy story like that and i was in that mind set . . . 95% i don’t fish or bluff . . . my mind is at you have it or you don’t if you don't you fold! . . . i usually play straight up poker i don’t fish/chase whatever . . . i try to play solid hands and not to weasel my way a pot (perhaps that’s why i didn’t make it as far as i could have) . . . it was a lucky break for sure and that play helped me ALOT in my chip stack . . . but no one wins without some luck on there side and without some bad beats against (probably) better players . . . just look at Alex . . . he gave the worse beats to a ton of players . . . hey that’s poker . . . now when i say my best play i mean my best score . . . not my greatest moment as from my reaction to you i was especially quite (for me) when that hit and i did feel bad cuz it was a bird move . . . i didn’t want to say this but i really could have put you in for more chips but i did check to you . . . and as much as i say i was 'amazed' that it came and that’s why i didn’t bet/raise honestly (at the risk of showing that i put my emotions in the way of the game) i felt bad for you . . . it was a risky play that paid off . . . and i know the feeling all too well of being beaten when you have your hand made and someone goes in on a gut shot . . . and hits . . . it sucks and what’s worse is that most times its by a player that is 10x worse than you . . . now i'm not saying your better and i'm worse or that your worse and i'm better . . . it was a gut shot and i hit . . . call it whatever you want but poker is played that way . . . i always feel bad when nice people take a hit and i liked you . . . you were really nice . . . i hope you don’t take it personally . . . and if you do just think of how i was beat (same way) . . . karma is a bitch!

Hi Angel,

No worries. I got over it. I just wanted to make sure that you didn't think it was a "good" play. I understand now that you meant "your best play" in a different way... This forum is for learning, for all of us, and I was mistakenly under the impression that you were under the impression that your play during that hand was long-term +EV.

As for not betting it at the end, I appreciate the sentiment, but if I had bet (instead of checked behind) would you have raised? It's probably best to go ahead and bet on the river in your spot... if you don't you are getting zero implied odds while you chase (unless, again, you thought I was going to bet the river for you).

i would have called . . . had you been a jerk to me or ignored me than i would have taken a stab at you . . . but bad beats to nice people suck! . . . now if i had won that hand fairly
(with proper cards and not luck) than i probably would have re-raised you on 4th and then bet the river . . . i don't think that bad play should be rewarded! there are too many people out there watching WPT and doing a 'gus hanson' or whatever . . kills me every time . . . i live my life with the idea that you live as honestly as you can so you can get respect . . . i try to play poker that way too . . . like i said i stick to a few chosen hands and usually play straight poker on occasion i may play something odd here and there but that’s usually when i'm very badly on tilt (i have a grrrreat story for that one) . . . i do slow play a lot but then again how else am i going to get chips?!?!

here is my grrrreat story . . . the tourney in feb i was on a table with some pretty nice guys but this one guy was being such a jerk every time i said something buddy would look over at me and grunt . . . so one hand and its just the two of us (i'm chip lead at this point) I had A K and he has Q 4 . . . flop comes we both hit i hit the A he the Q i bet he re-raises i call . . . next card he hits his 4 and goes all in i call . . . took a ton of my chips . . . to make it worse he looks at me and laughs like an asshole . . . now i'm fuming had the lights been a little lighter and you could have seen the smoke come from my ears . . . the next cards come i have 9 2 off he has pocket J . . . he raises and everyone folds its my turn i look down see this crap and see that the others may not call so without even thinking about what i was doing i re-raise him . . . the others fold and he calls . . . like magic the flop comes 9 6 2 no word of a lie . . . he raises i re-raise him all in . . . he CALLS! . . . they say karma is a bitch and boy is that right cuz 4th was a J and the river was a 2 ! BUSTED . . . i got not only all my chips back but a few more to make me feel better but i also got to laugh at him

! he left and didn’t even say goodbye . . . funny thing is had he not been such an ass i would have been okay with him beating me and i would have never gone in with 9 2 off lol . . . and the table was thrilled to see him go cuz he had yelled at some guy earlier to see his cards and he didn’t want to show pit boss was called and all . . .

I don't wanna point out the obvious, but wouldn't his hand have been JJJ22 and yours 22299? I am sure he was a jerk, but he would have been a wealthier jerk after that hand.

On an unrelated note, having read the last 10 or so posts, I am glad I don't play poker anymore

- I just can't handle losing to perfect perfect gutshot one outers. And then having to relive them. Publicly.

I was thinking about Wed and I was absolutely thrilled to put faces to avatars and to make some new connections in any case. I am feeling a little sappy I guess. Too bad there isn't a forum for sentimental thoughs. I haven't been in a casino for something like 12 or 14 months and walking in and seeing all the same faces (which is actually a little concerning) and the smoke and all that brought back the good old days.
