My second trip. Last time went to play single deck BJ and $1 craps. This time looking forward to some more craps but mostly poker.
lasvegasadvisor.com tells me that the Stratosphere tourneys are $20 and 90% of the money is returned to the players so I will probably try that on the Monday.

Re: Moose's Vegas PreTrip Report
Check out the 3 daily Sahara tournaments as well.. Excellent playability and value for $42. + $20. rebuy/add-on. Played 2 of them when I was there 3 weeks ago at the same time as Wolfhound and BigE. Jeff...

Re: Moose's Vegas PreTrip Report
You're right I never did do that did I? Actually Im not a very good writer compared to some of you.. lol... And since I'm not a drinker the stories would seem sort of dry...
However as for the Sahara poker room, it is kinda small and cramped compared to newer ones at MGM, Excaliber, etc but the tourney is great. I never did play any ring there though.
Moose have you got a direct flight or do you have to change flights? Also on the return are you doing the red eye? I'm planing a trip at the end of June so I know I'm going to pay more for hotel and flights. I looked at travelling from Buffalo but you end up at detroit anyways.

Are you planning to play in any of the WSOP events when you go?
yea I'm looking at playing event #2 at the WSOP. I guess I have to find out the blind structure etc to make sure I'm there for long enough. If anyone knows where I can find this out please let me know.

Westside8 - I work with a guy who goes to Vegas 6-8 times a year. This is the advice he gave me and it worked in saving me some good money on my trips this year.
1) Sign up at Expedia and Southwest (Ding) for fare change notifications. It doesn't matter if you don't want to use their service as most of the airlines drop the price of flights at the same time. Just use it as a reminder to check the latest prices.
2) Prices hit the bottom in the 4 - 6 week out range then begin to climb again. If you watch a couple of cycles you can nail the bottom pretty easy.
3) Use Travelworm for the hotel prices then phone the hotel directly for an additional discount. (Tell them you saw it cheaper on Travelworm). This however results in only a small saving (5% to 10%) if the room was already rock bottom price.
4) If you can go during the week everything is cheaper. Avoid Thursday night to Friday departure and Sunday night to Monday night return.
Luxor and Mandaly Bay both had excellent daytime tournaments in the $40 - $50 range with no rebuys. I believe that Paris/Bally's and Alladin all have the same. The Luxor had 77 people (paid top 8 with first being $671) while Mandalay Bay had 30 people (didn't find out the prize structure) in their morning tournaments. The only different thing about their tourny's was the first hour was limit. Its is a better format than allowing a rebuy, (in my opinion however I would rather see no-limit all the way), as I imagine they are making sure everyone gets a few hands for their money. I think you will find these daytime tourny's alot easier than you think they will be. My limited experience has lead me to the conclusion that in these cheaper tournaments:
Daytime = tourists
Nightime = tourists/locals
I don't think you will find to many sharks in these waters when the Wynn is hosting a daytime tourny with a $12,000 first prize.
If you don't mind heading off the strip, Binions had a decent tournament. Very well-run. Over 100 entrants on saturday afternoon. $70ish entry with 1 rebuy. Top 10 paid. Sunday had less entrants (about 75)... not sure about weekdays.
