What makes a good poker room?

Hello everyone, I'm new here and was wondering what some of you guys think makes a good poker room? For me I find it's all about the staff. If they are knowledgeable, friendly, and fair in their rulings, I'll keep coming back.

I agree with you that it is mostly about the staff - for me it is the dealers even more than the supervisors. Two things other things are important to me. First, the room should be separated in some way from the rest of the casino. Second, there should be a separate cage for the poker room that is part of the room.

What makes a good poker room -

1. Games (availibility and strength of games at all times - lots of birds,fish,etc... and the limits I want)
2. Rake vs. session fee and how much.
3. Dealers and staff - speed of dealers (point edward has some of the nicest dealers and staff, it's a shame they don't have the games I desire)
3. Noise level (room should be separated some how, don't want the ching, ching sound from the slots to be heard constantly)
4. Room decor, tables and seats (I'm spending over 8 hours per day in that room, it would be nice to have a nice looking room and comfy seats with lots of room at the table)

Things needed

No smoking

Low rake 5% max $3

No Jackpot. Most good players hate the jackpot drop. It increases the variance.

Jackpots also make me worry about the place getting robbed more frequently.

High-hand jackpots are the best. Highest hand of the night gets the total jackpot. The club doesn't keep our money until someone hits a Royal Flush and if you go to a club with 2 live tables that go until the morning you can get jackpots between $500 and $700.

Jackpots are not good for a couple reasons.

#1: It makes the game tougher to beat (think of it as higher rake)
#2: The house almost never gives 100% of the jackpot back to the players when all is said and done. I know for a fact that many "private games" which have jackpots rape the hell out of the players - they withhold 30-40% of the jackpot money and that goes to their profits. Probably better a real casinos but I'm sure they withhold something (maybe 10%)

So you can see the jackpot is a sucker's proposition. It creates more revenue and profit for the house in the long run.

I agree.

Although it may not work out in the house's advantage if players wise up and avoid places with jackpots.
