Tips on being patient

So I consider myself a well-rounded player. One big problem I notice, I have no patience. I'll play my game and as I go, cash games, I start playing more and more hands. I play well make a stack and instead of grinding and waiting for premium hands and positions, I get anxious and play less then par hands or less then decent positions. Tends to bite me in the ass. So my question, any tips on how to sit back and control your game?

Keeping the "gamble" in check is probably the biggest threat to your bankroll, once you have learned how to play beyond a basic level.
I cannot offer any real insight beyond this, although I did find a book that related poker to Zen, although it's title escapes me at the moment.

One tip that I have heard is when you get a nice stack, leave the table. Then open up another one and start with just the tabel max. It's kind of like banking your winnings. You can't do this live but its easy online.

If its live, then you need to leave once you notice yourself start to play more hands. Just limit your sessions by time and not by results and you may find yourself playing more focused, knowing you only have until a certain time to play.

If it's online, just open up another table. Should keep your gambol to a minimum.
If not, one thing I like to do is open up a micro stakes super turbo sng. everyone starts with 10 bbs! 3-5 min blinds! perfect for any gambler, ESPECIALLY if you can find a 6max KO super turbo MTT! They're incredibly stupid, and yet a lot of fun (for me anyways).

this.

open a micro mtt to satisfy your gambling needs. if you're worried about making mistakes and are new to multi tabling, consider having the other table from a different site (ie; the one you want to concentrate on is on stars, so open a $1 mtt on FTP)

What's wrong with playing more hands? Maybe you aren't playing enough more hands

Not everybody is comfortable or good at opening their hand ranges. It is not terrible to open up your hand range if like you said you have grown your stack, especially if you've shown down with big hands. You should be getting more respects with your bets. I wouldn't go crazy, but after winning a bunch, just try stealing with the one off hand.

Please please PLEASE for the love of God tell me that emo isn't trying to disguise itself over techno beats.....

"I'll keep the shitty tattoos..."
UGH.
This really really put me in an anxious/angry mood, pretty much the opposite of patience, therefore your post is invalid.

I need a smoke.

EDIT: lol @ "R.I.P., R.I.P., YOU AND ME!" If I see these guys on the street I'll do the world a favour and break their macbook pro.

big problem with my game, especially since I only play once a week usually so I want to maximize my experience (which leads to playing more hands). I don't think it only happens when you are winning; can easily play more hands when you are down to try and recoup.

I have actually made some notes on my phone that I will review during my session when I feel I am playing too many hands. Also taking breaks every so often is a good habit to just get some air. I try to do this when I win or lose a big hand which I find helps. Also the comment about limiting your time playing is good to a set no. of hours. I like to play max 4-5 hours as after that I get lazy and make stupid mistakes. If the action is good, I will extend my session accordingly.

I have always thought that patience eventually will come. It's a learning experience.
I may play a wide variety of hands at the start of a live cash game. I think you can get a good feel of the table by doing this. Especially at a casino. If you suck out on a couple of players maybe pissing them off enough to TILT them then you've done good.
I like to get myself into a position where I can build a decent stack.
I know in a lot of the times I have played there is a tendacy for me to go Card Dead for a while. Once this starts I usually tighten up like the strings on a hookers purse and weather the storm. If it continues than I pretty much say SCREW IT and go cash out. I have been known to go card dead for extended lengths of time. I usually quit playing for a couple of weeks and then get back into it.
It works , It's been awhile since I have not come out ahead.
Best advice I can give you is slow down and relax.
