Pacific Poker Review
Here at Canada’s Poker Forum,
we have run several of our
poker
league games at Pacific Poker,
so we are quite familiar with
the site.
Pacific Poker is owned by 888
Holdings Plc., a publicly traded
company on the London Stock
Exchange. Pacific Poker is one
of the more popular poker sites
for Canadians because they have
been around for so long, and
have many promotions targeted to
Canadians. Known for their loose
competition and bad players, it
is probably one of the sites
where a decent poker player
stands to make the most money.
Pacific does not have the same
traffic levels of sites like
PokerStars, but there are still
quite a few games going on in
their Holdem sections. They do
have an Omaha section and there
is some action at the cash
tables with stakes below 2/4
PLO, but not much else. Because
the site is not as busy, their
big tournaments bring out a
smaller field, which means an
easier chance to come in first,
and quite often some good
tournament overlays.
The software at Pacific is the
biggest problem. There are some
features missing that would be
nice to have such as viewing
hand histories (including your
opponent’s mucked cards), and
showing your cards after someone
folds. Also, another thing I
don’t like is you can’t chat to
people at tables that you aren’t
involved on. Probably a small
thing, but when we run our
league games this is a little
annoying.
If you can live without the
software features above, you can
stand to make some good money
feeding on their fish. So, if
your looking for a site with a
ton of bad players and a great
signup bonus (part of which is
25% instant), Pacific might be
the one for you!
Competition at Pacific Poker
As mentioned above, Pacific is
probably the easiest poker site
on the internet. The site
attracts a lot of bad poker
players, and a lot of gamblers
crossing over from their casino
(which is one of the largest
online casinos). Most of these
players are quite novice, so
with enough patience and basic
poker strategy you should be
able to do well.
Pacific Poker Tournaments
Pacific Poker has some great tournaments for people that
don’t want to sit around playing 12 hour + tournaments at
sites like Full Tilt and Pokerstars. Here are some of their
bigger tournaments:
$80,000 Guaranteed – Every Sunday at 15:35 PPT with a buy-in
of $132 (Micro satellites as low as $0.66!)
$20,000 Guaranteed – Every day at 15:35 PPT with a buy-in of
$55 (Most of the time there are under 400 players, which
means OVERLAY!)
Poker Promotions
888 Poker Open – Players can win a package to play in a
televised event with a $648,000 guaranteed prize pool in
England.
Cap Cana Cup - Players can win a package to play in an event
with a $100,000 guaranteed prize pool in the Dominican
Republic.
Poker Games
Texas Hold'em, Omaha, Omaha Hi-Lo, Seven-Card Stud,
Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo. Tournaments are only offered for
Texas Holdem
Poker Client Software
As mentioned above, Pacific
Poker’s software is pretty basic. It has all the features
required to play the game, but doesn’t really have some of
the cool features that other sites have. The graphics are
very nice, and the tables are re-sizeable, but not being
able to see mucked hands and show your hand after your
opponent folds are kind of annoying.
