Ohama...best way to learn the game

My local underground has a killer pot limit omaha game twice a week. I am a complete beginner at the game so looking for some advice on how best to get my PLO skills up to speed. Are there any definite must have books for PLO cash games? Are my NLH skills transferable to a PLO style game? Should I run to the hills and avoid PLO like the plague?

  • If you play online, just load a few .02/.05c tables.

Never slowplay, always bet when you're ahead and only draw to the nuts.
  • Here's a 3 year old PLO thread right here on PFC which is still applicable. Good info.

I would say this is a little tight.......

Don't slowplay when you flop top boat or better (want to build the pot big)

Slowplay (or pot control) is OK when say you flop a straight with no redraws (ie. flush, or higher straight), as sometimes when you flop the nuts, you're an underdog in the hand.

Bring 3 b/i's, as the swings can be big when you're nuts never hold.

Remember, multiway river pots, usually someone's got the nuts.

Only draw to the nuts for multiway pots....for HU pots, you can use discretion and still be profitable.

Good practice is the cheap online tables.

Apparently its usually $300 pre-flop at this 2/5 game. I was hoping to buy in short and just give it a try one night for something a little different. Not looking good.
  • When I get back from vegas I will give the game a shot. There is no doubt in my mind that the club guys have no clue how to play
