PokerStars reload bonus, 20% (up to $120) until Mar. 17

The usual conditions apply: You need to earn 5 times the bonus in FPP to release the bonus. Cashing out before collecting the bonus forfeits the bonus.

PokerStars has also started up their various WSOP satellites.

  • We've had some discussion on raked hands and how many you have to play at Party to clear the bonuses. Just looking at the comparisons with stars.
To clear the bonus you need to earn 5 times the bonus in FPP's.
From the pstars site FPP's for ring games are as follows
One (1) Frequent Player Point (FPP) is awarded for playing in each raked game when the rake reaches:

    * $0.50 for fixed limit games with stakes $0.50/$1.00 and lower
    * $0.75 for fixed limit games with stakes $1/$2
    * $1.00 for pot limit games, no limit games, and fixed limit games with stakes $2/$4 and higher

    ---

Since the rake is .25 per $5 to a max of 1.00 for $20 pot it would seem that bonus clearing would be difficult at .5/1 as the minimum pot for an FPP is $10 and $15 for 1/2.

Never really paid much attention to FPP's but it would seem that bonus clearing at Stars would be a grind. At party a raked hand is a raked hand. At stars all raked hands are not created equal in terms of FPP's. However rakes at stars are generally lower then party so it may all even out in the wash anyway.
No mention of time limits either.
That said I am getting ready to deposit. :) Thanks for the heads-up Scotty.
  • pokerstars also counts the vig on tournaments and SNG towards the bonus, so if you play those you receive that additional bonus also.
  • Yes, in addition receiving FPPs from the cash games that was already mentioned, you receive 5 FPPs for every $1 of tournement fee paid. (Just the fee part. That is, entering a $10 + $1 tourney gets you 5 FPPs.)
No mention of time limits either.

This is a major difference between Stars and Party (for example) in terms of the bonuses is that there is no time limit for clearing a Stars bonus. The only restriction is that you lose any Stars bonus(es) you have not yet cleared any time you do a cash out. Party bonuses typically require you to clear the bonus in 7 days (occasionally some bonuses are offered with 30 days to clear.)

So, a very frequent Party player or serious low-limit bonus whore specialist might prefer the lower rake threshold at Party, but it might be easier for a more "casual" player to clear a Stars bonus. Also, if you play limits $3-$6 or above anyway, it is probably easier to clear a Stars bonus (5 raked hands per bonus dollar) compared to Party (7 raked hands), since IIRC the raked hand threshold is the same ($1 rake) for $3-$6 and higher. And if you prefer to play mostly tournaments, Stars may be supreior for ease of bonus clearing.

  • Scotty are you sure that when you make any withdrawal you lose your outstanding bonuses?

I'm 95% sure. Email their support (or check the fine print if you have the actual promo handy) if you need to boost this to 100%.

I have bonuses at stars from November that are still pending and I have widthdrawn numerous times.. so I think we're witnessing a 5% occurance.
  • Excellent!!! Had a little time to burn so I played 45 hands and gained myself 3 whole FPP's. Should have that bonus cleared by 2010.

    My mistake.

Here's some of the fine print from their current bonus:
If you cash out any amount from your PokerStars account during the Bonus Period, but prior to making a qualifying deposit, you are ineligible for the deposit bonus.

I was confused. The cashout restriction is in effect before you make the deposit to which the bonus would be applied (and after the announcement of said bonus).

    The full rules are here.

So, the conditions are actually much better than I thought. As BBC Z suggests, you seem to have all the time in the world to collect the bonus once it's hit your bonus account.

Silly me. In previous cases I've been (incorrectly) avoiding cashing out from Stars while I've had a bonus pending.

  • Hmmm, I play 1/2 NL at Stars whenever I have a chance and find the reload bonus to be just that, a nice bonus.
